The Six Pillars Of Wisdom

One can only wonder how future archaeologists will gaze in awe
at the ancient knowledge passed down in the hieroglyphs of the 21st Century.
As the Seventh Pillar would have pointed out; one man’s graffiti is another man’s doctorate in ancient philosophy.

Nice shot Phil. I can't help wondering what a full color version would look like. Well done.

I like the contrast between the light of the pillars and the dark of the tunnel. Very nice area and well captured on your part.

Very nice work Phill! I've actually visited Stratford-Upon-Avon back when I was 17! I remember it quite well, although I have never seen this canal. Great shot! Personally, I don't like the text at the bottom of your image though, but that's not part of your photo! +10 Keep up the amazing stuff! :)

Wow - I really like this shot. Eerie. I'd like to see a full-color as well as a full black and white of this if you have time to upload them. Great title as usual.
Nice work (thumbup)

Great perspective!

Looks a little pixelated or oversharpened (the tree in the far end)?

Thanks everyone for your comments...

Tommyguns: You'd have seen the River Avon though! The canal feeds into it, but it runs from Birmingham, this is closer to the Birmingham end.
re the text... I do think the presentation is important - or at least shouldn't be distracting! The centred text was fighting the composition - thanks for pointing that out - I've moved it to the right so it flows more naturally with the image... works better for me (though really you'd like a black border wouldn't you )

Monjo: & Blueyonder: I'm gonna regret this.. but I've added a full colour download to the links. I hadn't looked at the original pic since I started working on it - I hated the colours then - now i look at it again it's far more interesting than i remembered. Can't seem to find the courage to work with a full colour pallet... the more i look at a picture I keep edging back to my B/w safety zone.

Blueyonder also linked a straight B/w for you. The final image is a bit more than a partial desat though... I toned the water to try and keep the feeling of depth in there - i wanted the reflection to go down as deep as i could get it.

moserArtist While I was messing about with the additional links I had a look at that tree at the far end - I'd burnt it out and lost lot of detail, so i dodged some back in - thanks for the pointer!

Wonderful compostion; I adore all of the different shapes that make up the surroundings. I also like the how the man made structures and grafitti contrast against the natural elements visible. The reflection in the water is another nice aspect of this. Good perspective as well. Great capture. (thumbup)

Cool! I am from the Midlands (Wolves)and as you know there are more canals there than in venice ...effing loads! I feel all nostalgic for home now! I love how just beyond the concrete it looks like a wilderness awaits, but I know that its not the english countryside, more like the back of a playing field :) Cheers!

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions.
Wasn't sure if everyone was going to tell me I should have stuck with the full colour (paint) but despite it being a very sunny day it was cold underneath the bridge and that's the feeling I was aiming to capture.

Andy: I grew up in Great Barr - Birmingham/Walsall boundry line - we're practically home boys! (huh). So, along with the Baggies my lot will be playing your lot next season - don't know why they don't just call it the midlands league for under achievers

Thanks again - Phill

Its funny that you pose the question of how we will be viewed by future archeologists. I think this same thing all the time as I look around at the crazy concrete jungles that we live in. I like the reflection of the pillars in the dark waters as the scene fades to blackness in the lower corner. B/W was a great display choice for this one.
